Unable to open Excel documents

Something has happened to my computer or I have done
something, because I can no longer open any Excel
documents by going through 'My Documents' or 'Explore'
or 'My Computer', what happens is I click on the document -
it trys to open i.e. it says 'opening', an inactive Excel
window opens but it then just says 'Ready' in the bottom
left hand corner. The only way I can access my Excel
documents now is to do File - Open - then select the
relevant document.

Can anyone help.
