Unable to open Excel files

I had to shut down my laptop yesterday. There was a message about closing and
losing data and when I restarted the laptop, I could not access files other
than by clicking Start Menu, then Excel then File and finding a doc from the
4 files in the drop down list?

There is a tool called Advanced Excel Repair. I have used it to repair
many corrupt Excel xls files on my damaged disks successfully. Its
