Unable to open Excel Workbook...

I am trying to open my excel workbook....it has data from 2006, every sheet
is a month Jan - December. It is 1,599kbs. Everytime I try to open it, it
doesn't Respond. I tried merging the data into MS Word in order to salvage
it...it still freezes it. Anyway I can get past it, or even save my data
from it somehow? Thank you very much for any help/tips/advice!

1. make sure the file is on a local harddrive, not a server or flash drive
2. open Excel first and after Excel is open use:
File > Open dialog to open the recalcitrant file.
