I have suddenly been unable to open Outlook 97, getting the error
message "Unable to open your default mail folders. File access is
denied. You do not have ther permission required to access the file
C:\WINDOWS\outlook.pst" Other error messages, follow. Indications are
that outlook.pst became read-only, but that attribute is not checked in
the properties. None of the diagnostic tools work, either. This all
occurs on the user side of Windows XP.
However, if I log in with Administrator privileges, Outlook seems to
run fine. I have run scanpst.exe, but did not help. I am starting to
believe that the problem lies in being able to properly access the
outlook.pst file on the user side rather than being read-only.
I have tried reinstalling Outlook, but it has not helped. When trying
to install it from the User side, I get the error message "Setup has
encountered an error in the Registration Database".
Hope someone can give me some guidance. I will be glad to give further
information. Thanks!
