Unable to Open File Saved by Excel X

I have a user who is unable to open files that she created and saved using
Excel X. She can open older files, but any new files she gets the error,
"Unable to Open File".

Have you tried any troubleshooting?

At the very least do the following:

* Install the service release for Office
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/DOWN
LOAD/OFFICEX/OfficeX_1012.xml&secid=5&ssid=11&flgnosysreq=True>

* Run Disk Utility First Aid to repair permissions

If these steps don't fix the problem then grab DiskWarrior and Norton
Utilities or TechTools Pro and check the hard drive.

By any chance did you mean unable to open by double-clicking, or the files
just won't open no matter what?
