unable to open file

I get the following error message on a few corrupted
files: Unable toopen the file. The file is in use by
another application or you don't have permission to open
the file. (3019.2) I've been trying to delete these files
for months and can't figure out how. Any advice? Thanks.

This is a known bug in Office for files on network drives
and we are all waiting for a patch from Microsoft. Ways
round it include:
Reboot.
Try using explorer to browse to the file rather than Word.
Get an administrator to check on the server if anyone is
showing as having the file open.
If this shows that it is open but nobody actually does
have it open look for the tempory file on the server that
Word creates for editing and delete that.

Thanks for these pointers. I tried them all and none
worked. I'm an independent contractor and I have a LAN
with my desktop and my laptop. So I am the administrator,
but I don't know how to check on the server to see
whether it appears as open by another user.
