Unable to open files after installing SP3

Andrew Mitchell

After installing Office2000 SP3 and the additional security fixes available
after SP3 I am no longer able to open Office Documents. (2nd time around as
you can see below)

I get the following dialogs.

When accessing Word "The file xxxx.doc is not available"
When accessing Excel "Unable to read file"
When accessing Powerpoint “The path or filename for xxxx is invalidâ€

I did uninstall and reinstall Office2000 after the first time I applied SP3
and subsequent fixes. This fixed the problem. However being the fool that I
am I applied SP3 and subsequent fixes to the new (2nd time around)
installation and the same problems appear.

Norton Anti Virus Office Plug-in is not installed as I see this has been the
suggested solution on a number of posts.

At this point the only solutions seems to be running Office2000 with SP2
only, unless someone has a solution.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
Andrew

Oops... didn't read the last half of your post... Search for the
OFFICEAV.DLL file on your system (include hidden and system files/folders).
Note the folder where the file is located, then use the "regsvr32 /u" method
described in the article I suggested to unregister the DLL file.

Glad you got it to work. I guess you saw my second reply, but not my
first one. I was referring to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820
"How to use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in".
The OFFICEAV.DLL file is for the Norton AntiVirus Office Plug-In.

I had many of the same problems. I changed the name of 'officeav.dll',
rebooted and the problem went away.

Try it
