Unable to open files after Office 2000 SP3

Andrew

After applying Office 2000 SP3 I am unable to open any
currently existing Word, Excel and Powerpoint files.

Word .... dialog says "The file xxx.doc is not
available"... If you click ok and then try to close word
it tells you I to save the normal.dot each time.

Powerpoint .... dialog says "The path or file name for
xxx.ppt is not valid"

Excel ... dialog simply says "Unable to open file"

Access, Front Page, Publisher and PhotoDraw V2 are all
fine.

Has anyone else experienced this after applying SP3? I've
spent hours on the phone with MS support and they cannot
help at all other than suggesting I uninstall Office,
reinstall and do not install SP3

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Andrew

I have the same problem. It came from installing the
recent security update for MS Ofc XP Pro onto an XP Pro
system.

System Restore did not cure it.
Detect and Repair did not cure it.
Reinstalling Office did not cure it.
No response from Microsoft.
Looking to reinstall Windows next.
