Unable to open files created in earlier version of Word

I'm running Word 2003. I have some old Word documents that were created
in Word 2.0, the Windows 3.1 version. If I try to open one of these
documents I get this error message:

Microsoft Office Word

You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version
of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this
version by your registry policy setting.

OK
--------------------------------------

I am comfortable with editing the registry when necessary, but I can't
find this setting. How do I resolve this so I can open these old
documents? Thanks!
