Unable to open individual records in Contacts

Just upgraded from OL 2003 to OL2007 (downloaded and run all latest Office
updates as at 11 Dec 07) in Windows XP (SP3)

Have managed to open correct pst files (contacts and archives).

However when I try to open individual contacts records using any of the
"Current view" menu options
(a) if I left click on a record I get "Cannot open this item"
(b) if I right click and then try "Open" on popup menu I get "Could not
complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid"

Furthermore if I right click or left click/"Open" on a distribution list the
relevant record opens but is blank - ie no data shows.

Help please!

Did you create a new mail profile as part of the process? When installing
Outlook, particularly Outlook 2007, a new mail profile is a good idea.

Try that new mail profile and post back if it doesn't work.

Sorry Brian, should have mentiuoned that I already created a new profiole.
The problem described happens using that.

Missed your second question re how I opened the pst files.

I used "File" "Open" with contacts.pst and archive.pst - ie I did not import

Why do you have a PST containing only contacts? What happened to the one
containing all your Outlook data (contacts, mail, calendar, tasks, etc.)?

Sorry, should have made it clear - The file containing all of my current data
(contacts, mail., calendar etc) is named contacts.pst. The file archive.pst
contains the archived records of same data sets

Since you've tried a new profile, it appears to be the PST has been mangled.
Did you try the Inbox Repair Tool? Did you export to create this PST or is
it the exact PST you were using in OL 2003? Is this PST your delivery
location or are you using a new, empty PST the installation probably created
as the delivery location? Did you uninstall OL 2003 and then install OL
2007 or did you simply install over the top of the earlier version, allowing
the installation to detect there was an earlier version and uninstall it for
you?

Yes, I tried the Inbox Repair Tool before I raised the problem with you.
This is the pst I was using in OL2003
I installed 2007 over 2003.

Yes, I had already tried that, but I've run it again just now - just in case.
Also by chance I was looking in "add remove programs" for something else and
discovered that a copy of "Outlook 2003 plus Business Manager Update" was
still on the hard disk (no other Office 2003 file however), so I deleted that
together with "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine" as prompted.

I then ran Repair from the Office 2007 setup disk

The rest of Outlook runs fine, but no change to the "Contacts" issue I'm
afraid.

For info I can delete individual existing records in Contacts, but cannot
amend them.

I've tried setting and amending up a new contact from scratch and that works
fine.

At this point, it's probably easiest to simply create a new PST, make it
your delivery location, move the contacts from the old one to the new one,
and see if they work then.
