Milly, Since my problem is an interaction between Outlook Express, Word and Excel, I have posted my question in multiple groups including both IE and Office. So far, no one has been able to help. I am getting the same suggestion as yours on the Outlook Express board. They seem to feel it is an Office problem. I am caught in the middle

Outlook Express is not a part of Office and has its own news groups for
support. Try posting to an Outlook Express group = they can be found under
the web interface under Windows->Internet Explorer

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, DougL asked
