Hi

I have been running the same software for the last two years and suddenly
last week my outlook stopped working. When I try and open it an error message
as follows appears.
Cannot open the outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. Errors
have been detected in this file.
c:\users\alison\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst.
It says that I need to use the inbox repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose
and repair the errors.

As i can't get into my outlook, I can't get into the inbox tools. I have
run a office diagnostic which cam up with an error unable to access required
field. But agian the solution seems to lie witht he tools menu in outlook
that I can't access.

Can anybody help me - please

You don't access the inbox repair tool from within Outlook.
It depends on your version of Office (AFAIR) where the inbox repair tool is
located.

Assuming Vista, the location is here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\scanpst.exe

Hello Alison
In 2007 it will be in
C>Program files>Microsoft ooffice>office 12>Scanpst.exe
The label will be a broken envolepe and using that utilityyou need to scan
your pst fiile and it will fix the isue for you.
The other way to resolve the issue is you need to create a new data file
from the control panel>mail.
And also the data file that you will scan will take huge amount of time
depending on the size of file and the file is corrupt or large.
And fopr any refrence visit the link

Hope that it will resolve the issue.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Rahul and Gordon

Thanks that's great I have found it! But when I try and scan the file it
comes up the "unexpected error prevented access to the file. Use a disk
error checking program and then try again"

Being a dumbo I have no idea where to find a disk error checking program can
you help?

A disk error checking program, is one supplied by your hard disk
manufacturer, from their web site. You download & create the disk checking
utility bootable floppy or cd
The Seagate utility is called Seatools
It maybe that your PC has a utility provided by your PC maker, if a large
OEM eg Dell/HP
Or see Chkdsk (Check Disk) in win help

You can run check disk to see if you have a bad sector that your .pst file
is on.

start->run->chkdsk
