Unable to open Word framework libraries

B

Bobby Sciacchitano

In word and excel for X in a networked home directory environment when a
user first opens word or excel a message 'unable to open work framework
libraries' or something to that affect appears.

The file opens fine and word continues to function normally however that
message comes up.

Hi Bobby,

Can't remember where I cribbed this (though it looks like a MS Knowledge
Base article) but see if it helps:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Error: An error occurred while launching. Permission denied.
"An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework X
library."
When you start Microsoft Entourage, Excel, Word or PowerPoint X for Mac, you
may receive the following error message:
An error occurred while launching. Permission denied.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if files in the Office v. X Identities:Identity
folder are locked.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Quit any Office v. X programs that are currently running.
On the desktop, open your computer's hard disk, and then locate the
following folder:
Hard disk :Users: User_Name :Documents:Microsoft User Data:Office X
Identities
Open the folder for the affected identity.
Verify that files in the Identity folder are not locked.
Make sure the Locked box is not checked.
Owner should show your name.
To change any of these options, click on the lock first.
The problem seemed to have popped up again. Trashing preferences doesn't
seem to get rid of the issue. Checking the permissions revealed that the
owner of the file is correct and the groups and others have permission to
read and write...
The only way it seems to get the e-mail working again is to pull the files
from a backup.
Nevertheless, examining the Identities folder is the way to go. For
example, if you've used the trick of moving aside your Entourage
database and pointing at it through an alias within the Identities
folder, you'll get this error if something goes wrong with the alias (I
know this from experience). If worse comes to worst you may have to
start up Entourage and switch identities and see if that fixes it. m.
