"Unable to open your default e-mail folders" error after Outlook .

After an install of office 2003, outlook will not open. It says to create a
user account, but that doesn't help. I've rebooted, and instaled all
updates. Any ideas?

did you verify it's trying to open your pst? did you try renaming the pst?
That error often means there is a problem with the pst and it should (but
doesn't always) create a new one when it can't find your pst.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sadly, they only changed the probelm. I've
tried creating a new pst and renaming old ones. Now when I start outlook, I
get an error that says "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Unable to open the
Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened." I got the same
message with pst's "Outlook", "Archive", and "outlook1". Any other ideas? (I
aslo tried a repair/install from rhe disc. )

I am getting the same error message after reinstalling Windows XP and then
installing Office 2003. Prior to it I was using Office XP(2002). I have been
able to set up my email account using the Control Panel/Mail icon and connect
to the Exchange server because on clicking Check Name in the final step, it
underlined my username. But when I launch Outlook 2003, I get the error
message - "Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to
your Microsoft Exchange Server computer with the current profile before you
can synchronize your folders with your offline folder file." I click on OK
and Outlook 2003 closes.

Can you please give me a step-by-step solution? Thanks a lot.

Ccn anyone answer Pauls question? I have the same issue. I created a new profile to get better performance with oulook 2007 (awful) Once I created the profile I get the same error message.
"cannot open your default email folder, the file c:/document and settings,
ost is not an offline folder, and.....connection to mic exchange is
unavailble. Outlook must be online or connected (which I am) to complete the
action. I'm confused, can someone please help me, with specific steps.

Thanks.
