Unable to Paste in Office XP

I recently installed Office XP, and I have not been able
to use the Paste function. In Word, nothing happens when I
press Ctrl+V or select Paste from the Edit menu. In Excel,
I get an error message as soon as I press Ctrl+C,
saying "Cannot open Office clipboard." Does anybody know
why this is happening and what I need to do to fix it?
