Unable to paste link excel document into word.

C

Cleophas

Since having installed Windows XP Professional and Office XP Standard, for
some reason I cannot paste link and excel document into word. I have gone to
insert on the word menu, then to create file, then to browse, then to my
documents, then to hp-pavilion C; then to documents & settings; then to
Cleophas Kearney; then to Cleophas Kearney's documents to the file for
insertion. When inserted, the word document shows it as an embedded object,
which I cannot view or format. I have tried the most conventional
means--that is I have open the excel document and highlighted the chart that
I was to export to word, copied the highlighted portion and then went to word
edit, paste special, paste link microsoft excel and I get something like
this: {link excel sheet 8 "c:\\documents and settings" cleophas kearney\\my
documents\\cornerlotxls""sheet2!r1c1:r8c8"\a\p} I have tried everything I
know possible--and that is not much. PLEASE HELP

The second method you mentioned should work. In Word, press Alt+F9 to toggle
off display of field codes (or click on Tools | Options | View | uncheck the
"Field codes" box | OK) and you should see your paste-linked Excel object.
You might have to switch to Print Layout view too.
