Unable to print in Microsoft Word 2007 ...

OK, I have a printer. It shows up in the control panel. I can print to it
from Notepad, Wordpad, and Paint. However, I cannot print to the printer
from Word, Excel, or the Browser. I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling the printer (detach printer, delete printer from control panel,
reattach printer... printer automatically shows up in the control after
that). I have tried MS Word diagnostics -- it ran successfully with no
errors.

This is *very* frustrating.

Have you/Can you select the Printer in Word's File>Print dialog?

The printer shows in the the MS Word dialog. But, when I try to print, it
says "Windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup".

Again, I can print from Notepad and Wordpad, ... but, not Word or Excel.

When I try to find a printer in the MS Word dialog, it says the Active
Directory domain services are currently unavailable. When I try to bring up
the printer properties, Word can't do it. It says the printer returned an
error.

Word puts a printer driver through its paces to a much greater extent that
either Notepad or Wordpad, so it is possible that there is a problem with
the Printer Driver that you have installed. Take a look at the printer
manufacturer's website to download and install another copy of the driver,
or a later one if there is one available.

I've got a very similar problem
I have a post in 'vista general' but see that my problem also spreads to word

my vista business sp2 with office 2007 sp2(? where has help/about gone?) has a canon ip3000 which has worked fine for years
4 days ago, which might be because of some ms updates, my printer suddenly wouldn't print, vista said it was offline. I tried everything, restoring, removing and re-installing the printer, also ensuring I've got all the right drivers etc and I got nowhere. The someone on the vist general ng told me to try it on another pc. Right next to my errant vista laptop, on a network I have a xp m/c. Swapped over the usb connection and hey presto, the allegedly errant printer printed on the xp m/c. So enabled sharing, accessed the printer via the vista pc in networking and printed a test page. Then I tried using vista laptop and word 07 to print using the network shared xp canon printer and I got "the active directory domain services a currently unavailable" from word
Please Doug, you're my last chance
