I have not checked in Word 97 but I see six (!) symbols in Word XP that
might be described as squares. Their Unicode hex codes are (from insert
symbol...Unicode hex) are 25A0, 25A1, AA, AB, 671 and 6A4 for large filled
square, large open square, small filled square, small open square and two
identical open squares. The last two are actually rectangles and might
simply be the "unavailable character" indicator but they *do* print! They
all display and print on my HP 4L with Times New Roman and Arial fonts but
Courier New gives two Arabic letters for the last two. I wonder which font
you are using in your document and how did you insert the symbol?
