Unable to publish updates

I've had no trouble publishing my web pages to the ftp until last night.
Today I was able to sneak one page in, but before and since I get the same
"check url" message everyone with this issue is getting. I tried clearing the
ftp and starting fresh, but that didn't do anything. My server suggested
dropping the publisher html files directly into the folder, but I can't track
them down anywhere. Any suggestions? Are the pages in a folder with a funky
name? My boss is not happy.

I am using Publisher 2003, publishing the finished pages to an ftp location.
It was working fine, and now it isn't. I've stopped getting the "Unable to
publish, check url" message, but it isn't publishing. I have disabled "enable
incremental publish". I have the site saved here in Publisher, so I assume
the files are saving in pub. They had also been saving in html, but if the
new files are, I can find them.

Are you publishing with Pub or a ftp tool?
If pub then detail the steps you are using.
Are you saving the web site locally or only to the server?

As I update a page, I save it. I get the "saving HTML" message. Then I click
publish to web. It saves to HTML first, gives me a prompt to save in
documents. I change the location to the ftp's web folder. It says it's
saving. I get the window for about a minute, and then it goes away. When I
check the site, the pages are not updated.

If you are checking the site in your browser the first thing to do is check
the browser itself, they cache pages regularly. Empty the cache (temporary
internet files) and then refresh the site.
When you publish make sure you are uploading the new pages "over" the old
pages so they over-write them and that you aren't mistakenly publishing to
another folder on the server, effectively having two copies of the site on
the server. If you have a third party ftp client it would be useful to use
that to log into the server and check what files you have published and
check their file creation date. And lastly, one thing that I have seen all
to often with customers that report various uploading problems is that they
have a page (or sometimes more then one) where they have objects overlapping
the page document (white area) AND the scratch pad (grey area), which is a
no no. All objects must be ON the document area.

When I try to publish a new page to the web, into my ftp folder, it will give
me an, Unable to publish page, check url, etc.
Things were going along fine. I do all the stuff you said. I have been doing
the same thing, using the same steps for the last month. It simply stopped
working. My web people have decided to take over the site entirely because of
all the problems, so now I am unable to update at my convenience, or when it
is requested by my client. I am rapidly becoming disappointed in the amount
of money I spent on programs that I spend more time fixing than using. It
seems to me, from so many posts I have read, that the working part of web
part of publisher has an expiration date. It should be looked into and fixed.
