I am running Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 1.
With Word 2002 (10.6764.6735) SP3, I get various errors that appear to be
Bad Executable Format. For example, in Help | About Microsoft Word, if I
click on System Infor... then I get "helpctr.exe - Bad Image The application
or DLL C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\HCAppRes.dll is not a valid
Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
Using Add or Remove Programs, I have tried to Reinstall Office, and I have
tried to Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation. The same thing
happens. First, I get the message "MAPI Repair Tool: LoadLibrary:
GetLastError = 193. I click OK. Later, I get the message "Error 1904.
Setup cannot register module C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office
10\1033\MSRCLR40.DLL. If you click Cancel or Ignore, run setup again and
reinstall or repair your Office installation. If the problem persists,
contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance."
I have tried renaming MSRCLR40.DLL to MSRCLR40old.DLL and then copying
MSRCLR40.DLL from another computer running the same version of Windows XP and
the same version of Office XP Professional. That doesn't work.
I can't find anything on this issue in support.microsoft.com. How do I fix
this problem?
