Unable to remain index page on site...HELP!!!

fI need to remane the index page of my site from index.htm to index.html, as
I have just transfered by site to the hosting company, and their defualt page
is named index.htm, and therefore, if I rename my index page, then my site
will show.

However, when I rename the page, and click to update the hyperlinks, I then
get the following error message....."Server Error: Cannot Rename .....file
names ... index files to ....same file names...index files: destination
already exists.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi
Make a copy of your web as a backup.

Try this,
Save your index page as index2.html so you have a copy.
Delete index.htm from the local and remote server
Rename index2 html to index.html then publish
