Unable to Rename Section Tabs within Section group

I have run into a problem renaming a section tab.

I have 36 Notebooks. The notebook I am having problems working with has 8
top level section groups. The top level section group I am working with
contains 3 section groups. The section group I am working in contains 2 more
section groups. The section group of this goup I am working in contains 5
more section groups. The section group of this group I am working in contains
Each of these section groups contains sections. The group of this section
group I am working in contains 14 section groups. The group of this section
group I am working in contains 8 section groups. The group of this section
group I am working contains 7 sections (tabs). The first four tabs have
accepted the new names I have given them. The fifth, sixth and seventh tabs
will not accept new titles. They do contain pages, and have retained the
pages through multiple opening/closing work sessions.

I had thought the problem may be the length of the string naming the tabs
but if that were the case, I would not think the first four sections of the
group would have taken their new names.

My question is whether or not this problem is a result of some system limit
or a chache problem or some other limit I may not know about.

My system is a Toshiba A105 with a 120 GB HDD, 3 GB RAM, Windows XP, Windows
OneCare, with all the latest updates.

Is there some adjustment to OneNote I can make that will accept the new
titles I need?

I really do not want to change the structure I have set up unless there is
no other way to solve this problem.

Do you get an error message or is your name change ignored after you press
Enter?
Is there an error or warning message in the Event Log?
What if you attempt to rename it (for the sake of testing) to a short name,
even one character long?
Can you list the names of all seven tabs (as you would like them to be)?

David,

Thanks for answering...

When I try to rename the tab, it shows on the the tab and on the list in the
navigation panel. That works until I go to the next tab. At that time it
reverts to the "New Section 1" name, as does the nav panel entry for that tab.

I have not checked the event log (where is it?)

There are no dialog boxes or warnings of any sort...

Your suggestion to shorten the name worked. So, apparently, I am at the
limit for the name string.

As to the name string, it is c:\Documents and Settings/Richard/My
Documents/OneNote Notebooks/Spiritual Things/Bible Study/New
Testament/Gospels/Harmonized/07 Great Galillean Ministry/01 Rejection At
Nazareth and New Home in Capernaum/Sec 41 Jesus Finds Four Fishers of Men

Character count (including spaces) 246???

As you can see, it is a long file name, but still short of the 256 character
limit for filenames...

At any rate, it is obviously related to file length. I guess I'll just have
to find another way to structure what I'm working on...

Question: can I move the OneNote Notebooks file to my root directory
without any negative consequences? That would effectively shorten the file
names almost 45 characters... Would such a move then change all the
correspondent section groups/sections for all notebooks? Would it make any
operational diferences for Notebook retrieval for other notebooks in that
file chain?

Thanks for your help...

Event Log
Open Control Panel
Open Administrative Tools
Start Event Viewer

Would it work for you to create a new Notebook titled "New Testament Study"
and lose the levels "Spiritual Things/Bible Study"?

You can move a OneNote notebook to another location - you would probably
want to use a subdirectory of the root rather than copy it to the root
directory. Remember to backup this folder along with your My Documents etc.
