Unable to retrieve any docs in Normal.dot

Wanted to make changes to Normal.dot template but couldn't find it!
Exasperated, I used the MS Word Repair tool located in the HELP file. Word
was duly repaired successfully - it said - and now every Word doc comes up as
gobbledygook! Nothing but strange sugns or symbols. Have tried all the
recommendations for specifying and changing coding; even downloaded new
troubleshooter with the New Resource Kit, but still no luck. Help Please!!!
I've lost every word doc on my computer for Christ's sake! And I promise to
love you for ever...
