Unable to save changes on the index page

Somehow Front Page 2002 has created two index pages,
one called index.htm and the other called index.html.
They seem identical however when I try to erase the htm
page I get a message that some 20 other pages have links
to it; and when I try to erase the html page, I'm told
that it is my home page.

When I make changes and try to save either one, I get
a message that a page with the same name exists, and to
enter a different name. What is going on ??

index.html is the one that is required by the server.

Try this:
Rename index.html to old.html
then rename index.htm to index.html.
FrontPage "should" update the links to the other pages.
Then simply delete old.html and publish changes.

Right click the one your host needs as a home page and select Make Home Page, then adjust your nav view and delete the other

I had to use FTP to rename the files, and then
reestablish the links manually, but it's working now.
Thanks much for your help.
