Unable to save settings to default template

Office 2007 Word Unable to save changes to normal.dotm I open a word
document, I select a different font and size, I select the Default button,
receive the standard message about changing the default font to the one I
selected and do I want this change for all new documents based on the Normal
template which I select Yes. I had then saved the changed document to
Normal.dotm in the template folder. I can open the Normal template and it
displays the correct font. When I open a new document it has the old font.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

When you said, "I then saved the changed document to Normal.dotm in the
template folder" are you saying you saved a document/template as
Normal.dotm? If that's the case then only Word can create a "true" Normal
template. Try renaming the one you saved and setting the default again. This
time after the prompt to change the default you don't need to do anything
else except when you exit Word if you're prompted to save changes to the
Normal template select Yes.
