unable to send email. outlook 2002

This is a new problem, until yesterday everything worked fine. I have
Outlook 2002, am running McAfee AV software and using the firewall that came
with XP. Yesterday I tried to send email, and got an error message
(0x8004210B) saying "operation timed out waiting for response from the
sending (SMPT) server".

I called my ISP, who advised me their settings were fine, it was MS or
McAfee problem. I restored computer to a week ago (McAfee recently updated),
when all was working fine, and tried to send mail again, both with McAfee and
firewall on and with it off without success. I went to microsoft website,
found I needed to dl sp3. Tried to d/l sp3. It wouldn't load, kept getting
error messages. I finally uninstalled all of MS Office XP Professional, did
a clean install, then went back to MS web site and this time sucessfully
installed sp3. Then, followed directions on MS web page to correct registry
keys. I then set up MS Outlook again. I am still unable to send email, and
am out of ideas. I can still recieve my mail. This problem is only with
sending mail. Any help out there?

When you say "their settings" do you mean that the POP3 SMTP settings on
your PC are correct or that their mail servers are up and running?

Danny, thanks for helping. I called Charter (my ISP) yesterday. He
confirmed their server is running. We also checked all settings on my
computer, deleted the account, made a new one, etc... So I know all settings
on the computer are correct. When I googled the error message number, I got
a microsoft page that said there was a fix in the 3d service patch for that
exact problem, so I am assuming it is a microsoft problem for sure. However,
I did try disabling the firewall and McAfee too, with no luck.
Thanks, Tamara

Double check your SMTP server again. You typed SMPT in your message--make
sure you didn't do that in the server setting. I've done that before!

Thanks for the suggestion, but with my computer, nothing is that easy! But
I double and triple checked it anyway. It is typed in the way it should be,
SMTP.
