unable to send emails on behalf of someone else

I delegated access to someone, granting them Editor permission. I shared my
mailbox, also at the Editor permission level. Yet they are unable to send an
email on my behalf. The person can open my Inbox and also edit my calendar.
What could be preventing this?

I followed those steps already, and it still does not work. I get an error
message stating that I do not have permission to send to this recipient, even
though i have given "Editor" level permission.

I am somewhat confused. When do you get this "I do not have permission
to send to this recipient" message? If it is when you are setting this
up, I will hazard a guess that there is something on the exchange server
acting up. I am not familiar with the server side of the issue. Perhaps
someone else has in idea there.

I receive the error message after attempting to send the e-mail message. I
referred to the Microsoft article
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA011367671033.aspx), which
said to make sure that the appropriate access was granted to me, and to make
sure that the person's mailbox was shared, but I still receive this error
message when attempting to send an e-mail on their behalf. I keep wondering
if I am missing something.

You keep referring to "I" but then are "describing" the actions of two
people but in the singular. Are you in fact performing this setup and
operation as logged in as two different individuals?

Were "send as" or "send on behalf of" persmissions granted at the server level? What versions of Outlook and Exchange are you using?

We use Outlook 2003 and Exchange Server 2003. Is it necessary to grant these
permissions at the server level first?

Derrick,

I ran into the same problem when setting myself up as a Delegate on my boss'
server account. I ended up having to give myself Owner level permissions.
However, when I send an e-mail on his behalf it looks as if he sent it
himself. The "Sent on behalf of" text does not appear anywhere in the
message.

Patricia:

I eventually found that when I granted "send on behalf of" permissions at
the Exchange Server level, I was able to accomplish my goal, although I don't
remember that being the case in the past.
