Unable to turn my Out of Assistant ON?

When I try to activate the Out of Assistant (using Outlook 2003 Prof. Ed) I
get the message " The command is not available. See the program documentation
about how to use this extension"
Can't seem to find out what that means? Anybody know how to fix this?

The Out of Office Assistant is available to those Outlook users who connect
to Microsoft Exchange as their mail server. This is normally found in a
business environment. Are you connecting to an Exchange server?

If you have a different type of mail account, you'll need to follow these
steps instead:
