Unable to turn off Text Tool

I've turned on the Text Tool, inserted the text box and now, I can't turn off
the Text Tool. 'Help' tells me that I should click 'ESC' or simply click
outside the drawing -- neither solution works. The Text Tool is permanently
on -- even when I go to other pages. BTW, I'm using a template I obtained
from Microsoft's Visio template library. Don't know if the template is from a
previous version of Visio (mine is 2003 Professional), but thought I'd
mention it. TIA, Stuart

visio keeps the last tool active until you change tools. select the pointer
tool (the arrow to the left of the text tool).
