Unable to type in any Foreign Language

Hi,

I checked all the parameters that needs to be set in the Preferences,
International Input methods and I see the Icon for language selection
at the far right corner.

But when In word, I select the Japanese language from Tools and start
to type, it is still US English. When I select the text and change the
language to Japanese, it still remains US English.

I am using Office 2004 and Mac OS 10.3.4.

Any help is appreciated.

Could it be because those things are irrelevant? You say you see the
icon for "language selection"; I presume you mean you are now showing
the input menu. So now use it to pick a Japanese input method. m.

Did you also use the Language Register tool to register Word for Japanese?
This adds various proofing tools to Word's preferences.

Matt is correct that to get Japanese input working, you must select one of
the Kotoeri options presented in the Input Menu. Word won't automatically do
this. Of course, if you have a Japanese keyboard, you can hit the -kana key
and the eisuu (English) key to toggle between them. On the English keyboard,
you can toggle languages by holding down the Command key and tapping the
space bar.
