Tired of having to use research icon

Has anyone had this problem? I'm using Excel 2003. Recently, the uppermost
bar, along the top of the Excel spreadsheet containing the Excel logo, name
of spreadsheet, and minimize, restore, and close buttons, has been changing
from deep blue to grey. When this (color change) happens, I am unable to type
into the cells or even use the pull down menues. The only way I've been able
to continue using Excel is to click on the "Research" icon. Only after the
Research box appears on the right margin am I able to use the spread sheet. I
did nothing to change the spreadsheets, but now all spreadsheets I open
become frozen in this manner. I am unable to use any excel spreadsheet
whether it's one I've created or it's been e-mailed to me without using the
"Research icon." The problem appears to be with my laptop in that the
difficulty is not noted when I open e-mailed spreadsheets on other desktops.
I do not however, open spreadsheets after they are altered by my laptop for
fear of spreading whatever this problem might be. I am not familiar with
micros and have never used one. This is a very annoying problem that no one I
know has been able to resolve.

First of all, you have posted in a Macintosh Excel group. You say you are
using Excel 2007, so you may have better luck in a Windows Excel group.
Nevertheless, I don't think there is a "research" mode in Excel. Your
application may have a macro that is establishing this mode. If so, you will
have to pose the problem to the author of the macro.

I faced similar problems, and I tried an Excel file recovery tool
called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel file. It is a
powerful tool to repair corrupt or damaged Excel files.

Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe

I am not sure it is the right place to post, but hope this will help.
