Unable to type, use space bar, number, etc from the keyboard

While typing on the keyboard, I accidently held down the control button for
approximately 8 seconds. I received a note stating that this would cause the
computer to slow down and that typing would slow as well. I have been unable
to type any letters, and even the space bar don't work. Do anyone know how
to help with this problem. I'm also unable to send mail because the letters
are not working. Help. Thanks.

I think it was more likely the right Shift key that you held down. That
activates an accessibility option called FilterKeys.

Go to Control Panel > Accessibility Options and uncheck the "Use FilterKeys"
box. Also click the Settings button and uncheck the box for "Use shortcut"
so it doesn't happen again. You should probably repeat that for the other
two options as well.
