Unable to Uninstall Office XP Pro

R

Richard

Something has become corrupted in Office XP Pro, when
went to try and add/remove program it gave an error
message saying something about patch package could not be
found. I am looking for a manual method to uninstall
since I can't use add/remove program or the detect and
repair function, both give the above error message.

You can use the same method for the "Office XP Pro Update
Fails" listed below.
Try using Windows Installer Cleanup, MSICUU.EXE. It will
clean the registry of all entries for Office XP Pro (or
any other program you can select from a list). The
registry may be corrupt, not listing where the patch
packages are located or blocking the add/remove. You can
then reinstall in same directory without removing first.
Reinstall Office XP Pro and SP1 and SP2.
MSICUU.EXE was released for Office 2000 but seems to work
for Office XP(2002).

And, if that doesn't work, and you have a Windows XP CD to hand, you need to
look for something called MSIZAP in the support cab. The path is
<drive>:\SUPPORT\TOOLS\support.cab.

The below is courtesy of Susan Ramlet Office MVP

You'll need to extract it from the cab file. You can run msizap /? to get
the parameters for how it's used to remove Windows Installer data for
Office.

MsiZap needs to be run from DOS. Wherever you find MsiZap (the following is
from the Installer SDK), do the following:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDK\Bin>msizap t {Product ID}

Product ID mean the GUID. You might find it in a file in your TEMP
directory called something like "Office XP <edition>
Setup(####)_MsiExec.txt". If the TEMP directory is empty, you can find the
GUID using another method. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
Click on the GUID folder numbers, and you should see a key called Display
Name. One of the folders will have MS Office as the display name, and the
folder number is your GUID. (You may also find it in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration\ )

Make sure you use the curly brackets when executing
msizap t {GUID}
You'll know it works when you see a stream of text fly up the screen.

Several folks have requested a user-friendly utility, to no avail yet.

Thank you for the suggestion. However the file MSIZAP is
used by the Windows Installer Cleanup. No need to go to
DOS or extract from CAB or use paramaters or GUID. It is
the user friendly version and is much easier to use.

Hal
