Hi, just did a second clean install of Office Mac 2008 and run the auto update that follows. First a small 2.1.1 (?) update gets installed ok and then auto update finds the 12.1.0 update. It downloads and then starts to update but get stuck immediately at "Preparing Office2008 SP Update (12.1.0) - Running installation script AutoUpdate" message and stays there indefinately. Also tried to download the 12.1.0 update manually but the installer gets stuck the same. Any ideas?

Thanks....

You aren't following directions. You are supposed to quit all applications
first. There is a window hidden behind the installer that's needs your OK to
run that quits for you. If you simply log out/in with Shift key down THEN
run the installer you will be OK.

There are two updaters needed now. All other updaters were rolling into
these combo updaters:

12.1.0 SP1
12.1.5

Newer DVDs of Office come with 12.1.0 SP1 installed so they only need the
12.1.5 updater.

Restart after updating. IMPORTANT

O.K., I had the problem even though I had quit al MS programs first. Then I went to try again and I couldn't find the update package, so had to download it again. Where does the update package go when it's downloaded?

Update: successfully installed 12.1.0. Might have left the autoupdate application running inadvertently on previous attempts, but not sure. Then had to get 12.1.5, which the updater didn't find until after I had installed 12.1.0. All in all, a long, frustrating process, that is unlike the update process for any other Mac S/W I've updated so far.
