unable to update Office 2000 Premium

G

Gregg

I receive the following message when trying to update
Office 2000 Premium:

"Office Update is unable to check for updates.
The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on
this computer. This may be happening because of one of
the following reasons..."

One of which is something to do with missing Windows
Installer patch files (.MSP files). I did an XP system
restore after an Office update, and this problem then
materialized for me. How do I resolve this?

This is typically caused by corruption in the Windows Installer information
for your Office installation. You can fix it by using the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility to remove the corrupted information per the instructions in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301. After
removing your Office product listing with the utility, you'll need to
install your Office product again.

System Restore is one time when the installer data can get out of whack:
