Unable to update Office 2000

Hi All

I have a major problem and have been tearing my hair out over this since
last week.

PC (Lenovo running Vista Business)
Uninstalled the preinstalled Office2007 as we dont use this at work.
Installed Office2000. Went to download and install update SR-1 but receive a
messge telling me....

Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Update did not complete sucessfully.

I installed Office2000 from a network share. So I uninstalled it and then
installed directly from the CD. But again I received the same error as
above. I decide to roll out the PC to the end-user with an unpatched
Office2000 installation.

This was last Friday.

Today I am setting up a new laptop for another user (Lenovo running Vista
Business) and have exactly the same problem. Howver this time I did a System
Restore and then installed Office2000 with Office2007 already on the laptop
at the time, but once again the same error message appears.

Help!!

This has only occured in the last week. I have NEVER had an issue
installing and updating Offfice2000 on a Vista Business PC/Laptop be it a
Lenovo or a HP, or even a DELL!!

Can someone please advise me what is happening and how I can resolve it?

Thank you :)

Ok guys I've been googling for an answer and so far cannot find one that
works for me.

However, I did find on a website (link unavailable as I have since closed
the tab, sorry) that Microsoft stopped their support for Office 2000 in July
2009. So, could this be the reason why I can not update my Office 2000
installtion with SR-1a? Could it be that although I can download the update,
Microsoft have updated it with a piece of code that will restrict me from
actually installing the update?

Is this plausable do you think?

This question has been answered multiple times in this forum.
...... look in this forum rather than a general search

Oh, I apologise.

However, does my question about the removal of Office 2000 support from
Microsoft sound a likely reason?

Anyways, I shall search on here now.

Thank you for informing me

Absolutely.... not only have they disabled support, they've actively taken
files off of their servers that you need.... they could have just left them
there.

You need this file: O2KSR1aDL.exe (the long version of SR-1 that doesn't
require them to push the rest of it to you)
You'll need to find it from a non-microsoft site as they've pulled it.
I downloaded it from a site I normally wouldn't download from, and it worked
fine.

Oh how i love Microsoft!

Anyways thanks Rick for the suggestion to search elsewhere.

I have found the file you mentioned on the thread started by Sailor and
titled "Cannot Install Office 2000 SR-1a" and Sr-1a is now installed
finally!! Now I am going to try SP3, wish me luck!

Crafty little so and so's lol

Oh well SP3 is now installed and so are all the other updates too.

Thanks again for your help, I owe you one ;)
