UNC paths

Hello everyone,
I am trying to setup a webpage with a map of our networked printers. I plan
on deploying 15 or so new color devices and instead of visiting each desk
would like the users to be able to click on the map and have the driver
install.

The Problem: When I type in the path to the printer the browser cannot find
the printer, I use the following as a link

\\servername\printer

When this is used in an email and sent out the email program (Outlook) opens
the printer and installs the driver. Can this be done on a webpage?

I think UNC should work fro locating the driver in IE if you give the
correct path.

Why don't you just give instruction how they can do it in the page and
list the network location printer name driver for the each printer. The
would just need to type or cut and paste.

E.g
New color printers
Printer type, physical location, printer's network name, queue name,
location of driver.

Depending on the type of machine's Win version and your LAN, they can
either install a network printer by knowin th priner name only or they
may also need the location for the driver.

E.g.
WIn2000 instruction
Click Start -->Printers-->add network Printer,--->

WinXP
....

Win98
....

...PC

FYI: Windows XP can also be configured to automatically find printers on the network and then
install them.
