"Unclicking" problem with Excel

Has anyone run into the following problem with Excel? Lately, when I open
Excel and click in a cell I cannot get out of the cell. When I move out of
the cell, or try to that is, the program begins to highlight the cells I run
over. I have to alt-tab-delete to get out which unfortunately forces me to
close the application.

re-load your wheel mouse drivers...should fix the issue

the scroll lock key is not on is it? (SCRL in status bar)
Does the status bar show "EXT" if so press F8 to turn that off
