undefined function?

I had a query that used to run and now doesn't - it tells me that the
function is undefined...

this is the problem query: GPI2: Mid([REG1].[GPI],1,10)
it tells me that mid is an undefined function... does anyone know why it
does this but then when i go to build the expression from the expression
builder it had selections for all the functions and mid is in there???
