Undeletable email

R

Ray Turley

Office 2002 (aka XP), SP-2

One of my customers received a rather ordinary looking
email but with a twist as it can not be deleted or moved.

When I attempt to right click, select open I get the
error "The messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. If problem persists restart Outlook" after
rebooting Outlook or even cold booting the workstation
there is no change.

If I double click the email I get "Can't open this item".
If I drag it to the deleted items folder or highlight the
header and press the delete key I get "Unknown Error".

Attempts at printing get "Message headers can not be
printed. Download entire message and try again".

Needless to say I am out ideas, anything new would be
appreciated. Thank You in advance for your assistance

A couple of questions...

1) Is the user using a .PST file? If so, how big is the file?

2) How many items are in the folder that this particular e-mail resides in?

Answer to Q1) No, all the information is stored on the
server (Exchange 2000, SP3). The message in question
doesn't show up on the server at all.

Answer to Q2) 8 total in the Inbox as of 11:24 hours CST.
Or do mean total for that recipient over all? If so, this
recipient receives large amounts of email consistently (30
to 40 emails daily, primarily SPAM currently, which I am
working on also).

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Hmm...unfortunately I am not much of an Exchange expert, so someone else
will probably have to help you out on this one. In the meantime, you might
want to search the Microsoft Knowledge Base
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;KBHOWTO) for those
error messages...there are lots of things that can cause those messages to
appear, and maybe you'll find the one(s) that applies in your case. Good
luck.
