Under File > Properties, what does "modified" mean?

In looking at mail, there is a date/ time sent and a date/time received.
There is also a date/time modified - what does this mean?

It means that after it was sent and received, you took some action on it
that is a different time. Outlook uses the modified date for archival
purposes.
