Underline and decender letters

Hello,
I think it is "default" in every Word version; I recently tried it with Word
2010:
When you underline words with a descender (i.e. g, j), the underline is
above the letter. So it is hard to read and does not look very nice.
If you use a black underline sure it would not matter, but I use gray or
light blue as the color of the underline. Word 2010 is still in BETA, it
would be a good idea to change change this habbit and put the letter above
the underline.

The position of the underline is determined by the font designer.

Hi Suzanne,
I mean with "above" not up or down, instead I mean the "g" should be above
the underline. Professionel layout programs spare the underline before it
hits "g". Word cannot do this. But if Word would show the "g" above my grey
underline it would be very nice looking workaround.

Michael.

PS: The vertical position of the underline you can change with Fontlab,
within the font.

So in other words you were talking about layers and meant "in front of"?
