Underlines printing but not showing on screen

I have a 200 page file which I am trying to fill in lined blanks. The lines
will print but will not show up on the screen. How can I get these lines to
show up? I am using Word 2002. I read past posts that suggested going into
Tools, Options, Compatibility, and checking "Draw underline on trailing
spaces." This is already checked....but still no lines. HELP!!!
