underlining a field

Joe

We are trying to make up a questionare-esq form for work, and are running
into a small problem that the boss says has to be taken care of.

We have about 50 questions and each one has an area on the right side of the
page for a response. It is going to be an online form, as well as a print
form, which is where the problem lies.

The right side answer collumn (no we didnt use tables, but for lack of a
better word ill call it a collumn) needs to be underlined for each answer, so
that things wont get messy. We need the lines to appear when printed for hand
fill, or when the form is filled out online. How can we make it so that words
will automaticly show up underlined, without pushing the line down to the
next row via the wrap-around?

The lines also need to be there when no words are entered. We tried setting
it up with words automaticly being underlined, but then nothing appears when
you just print to handfill it. Any suggestions, short of reformatting the
whole thing for tables?

Hi Joe,

You could:
.. add a right-aligned tab-stop at the appropriate position after the formfield
.. insert a tab to occupy the space before the tab-stop
.. select the formfield and tab and apply an underline to both the formfield and tab.

Now adding this tab stop will keep the field underlined all the time for
printing to fill out by hand, as well as stay there when someone trys to type
an entry into the field?

Your best bet is to go back and use a table, with a bottom border for the
cell containing a text form field.
