How do I set the default underline to separate word underline only as
opposed to one continuous underline. I;m running OS X (Panther) with
Word X. Please help. Thanks.

Hello C. Masson,

[I'm in Word 2001. Word X may be a little different; post back if it's very
different and someone else will probably take over.]

You can of course format it directly by selecting the words and choosing
Format menu -> Font -> "Font" tab -> then select "Words only" in the
pop-down menu under "Underline style".

If you want to format text this way often, you'd be much better off
(quicker, more consistent, changeable globally later) by defining a
character style that incorporates words-only underlining. Post back if you
need some guidance on how to do this.

* If anyone is still reading down this far, here's a question: is it time
for you to back up your Normal template and all your Word settings files?
(This should be on a medium other than the internal hard drive and, if you
also want to protect against theft and fire, stored in a different
building.)

Hi

Use Tools > Customize from Word's menu
Click the Commands tab
In the left side click Format
In the right side scroll to "Word Underline" (which is different from
"Underline")
Drag the "Word Underline" command (it's a W with dashes under the W) to any
toolbar then let go.
Click OK

Now you can click this button when you want to underline all the words but
not the spaces of selected text.

My English teacher would take points off if I didn't underline this way. It
seems that this is in fact the proper way to do underlining.
