Underscored characters in Word 2007 Equation editor

I want to use underscored characters (representing vector variables) in
integrals in MS Word 2007 equation editor. Whenever I select a character and
underscore it, Word underscores the whole equation. Any idea how I
underscore a single character?

Select the character and click the Underbar structure. In the Structures
section of the Equation Tools - Design ribbon, Accent tool, drop down the
arrow and look in the second to last section, Overbars and Underbars.
