understanding the "back" button

I use Onenote on a desktop PC and find myself frequently moving between
two pages that are in different folders/sections/etc. I'd like to move
back and forth with the ease of ALT-TAB, but I don't think this is
possible. So, I've been working with the "back" button, but I don't
understand its logic. When I've visited a number of pages, when the
back button is pressed, it doesn't seem to take me back to the last
page visited, but some other page in the list. Any help you could
offer on moving quickly (with the keyboard) between two buried pages
would be greatly appreciated.

If you just look at a page, it isn't added to the list of viewed pages.
If you touch the page, click anywhere in it, then the page is added to the
list.

You can check this by clicking the little arrow next to Back, it will
display the pages it has in it's cache.
