Undesired dot below characters

Using Word, I get a spurious dot below some characters in a table. This may
be associated with an error message that prints on the bottom of every page:
"Error! Main Document Only" at the bottom of every page when I print." Any
ideas how to fix this?

These may be unrelated. Dots below characters could indicate that they're
Hidden text or have SmartTags associated with them. The error usually
results from attempting to put a field (such as a cross-reference) into a
header or footer that can be used only in the main document.
