undesired font size changes?

I have a document that uses a template that contains a style named 'desc.'
'desc' uses uses a Verdana 9pt font. I did some editing in various places in
the document, saving it several times in the process. I just noticed that
all of the paragraphs that use the 'desc' style have been changed to an 8.5
pt font; however, a new paragraph using the 'desc' style still uses a 9 pt
font. Is this a bug, or have I inadvertently done something to cause this
problem?
