Undisclosed Recipients

S

Singlemom

I posted earlier and no one has answered my question or given me anything to
go on. My problem is with using Bcc in Microsoft Office. When I use this, for
instance if I send it to 6 people. Leaving the To field empty. They all
receive the email, but it will say on theirs To (my name and address) and
From (my name and address). It does not say To "Undisclosed Recipients" like
it is suppose to. My old Outlook does, but the Office one doesn't. What is
wrong with it, or where do I go to set it to say this. People are asking me
why I am sending emails to myself, when in fact I'm not. All I can find in
the Knowledge Base is" how to" send Bcc emails, which I am doing. I have
tried to get support from Microsoft, and the form will not submit to them. I
am assuming it is in the settings somewhere, but have searched thru every
option I can find and can't find anything pertaining to this. Any help would
be appreciated, I try to protect other peoples email addresses by using this
feature, and it is working on that, but still doesn't do as it should and say
"Undisclosed Recipient". Its just a bug that is bugging me!

1. Create a new message
2. Insert "Undisclosed Recipients" in the To: field, followed by
your email address in "<,>" braces.
The To: field should look like: "Undisclosed Recipients
<[email protected]>". Alternatively you can create a custom
contact called Undisclosed Recipients with your email address
associated.
3. Put all the recipients' email addresses in the Bcc: field,
separated by commas.
The Bcc: field could look something like:
"(e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed),
(e-mail address removed)".

Thanks Dawn, I tried this and after sending one, from my sent file, it says
Undisclosed Recipient by itself like it is suppose to, but on the email the
other person recieved, it had my name and address along with it, which I
assumed it would by adding my address on the new contact. Then I too received
the email back in my inbox of Outlook by doing it that way. I still don't
understand why my old Outlook works the way it is suppose to, but the Office
Outlook will not work on its own that way. I receive emails all the time that
has the senders name in the From field, and Undisclosed Recipients in the To
field, and my old outlook will do that too. It doesn't have the senders name
in the To and From field at the same time like mine is doing. Any more ideas?

It would be helpful to know which version of Outlook is not working
for you. That way I can research and see if this is a known issue for
your particular version of Outlook.

Thanks.

In Outlook 2003, set the display name for the address as Undisclosed
Recipients.

It looks like that you were using Outlook Express previusly in which
when you leave out the TO field empty, the receipients will not see who
the message was sent to, except that the sender's name and email will
always appear under FROM field.

Alternatively, in Outlook 2003 you could use something like:

TO: (e-mail address removed)

Bcc: XXXXX (enter your list here)

This ensures that the TO field does not show your own name/email.

My Outlook does exactly like your experience and so it must be by design
as most filters look at this field to decide whether or not it is a
spam.

Thanks Milly, but the way it is working, if I set the display name it still
has to have an email address attached to it or it wont even store in the
address book. I will try it again though, it just seems like useless time for
the email to come back to me too and me have to delete it from my inbox each
time I send one out. Thanks for your response though.

Yes, I was using Outlook Express previously, and it seemed to do fine with
this. Are you suggesting to just make up an email address for the To field?
If so, I'd be afraid it might turn up in someones box for real..LOL don't
think they would appreciate that. But I am glad to hear yours does the same
thing, maybe that is just the way they have made Office Outlook, I thought
mine just had a bug I couldn't find. By setting a new contact in the address
book like a previous post told me to do, it sends the email right back to me,
which would also be a bothersome thing to have to delete every email I send
out when it comes back in. Thanks for your response, I may just go back to
Outlook Express, it seemed much easier to use.

If you want an apparently valid email address that will make the message
just "go away", you can use anything you like @example.com. That domain
is dedicated to such use.

Ok, thank you very much, this might work then using a new contact that way.
THANKS!

I am responding to Dawn's answer to "Undisclosed-Recipients in the TO:
field...I tried her method and low and behold "IT WORKED" :) Thank You,
DAWN!!!
I spent almost ALL afternoon on this and now "finally"
Undisclosed-Recipients shows in the To: field-only...(If you follow her
instructions)!!!!

I have the same problem. How can I send a Bcc message that shows the name of
the person or company? It looks rather peculiar when he recives a message
"from" me and "to" me.

I finally got responses from Microsoft and the Office Edition of Outlook does
not have that feature and work like the old Outlook. I took someone elses
advice and made and address entry of the following.
(e-mail address removed) witht he display saying Undisclosed
Recipients. This works as the the old one did, but the only problem is you
will get the email back also as a mail failure which you will have to deal
with in your inbox. It works for me ok, good luck!

I simply use a mail merge for personalization.

Is there a patch available? Has this issue been corrected in subsequent
versions of Outlook?

S

Singlemom

Hi Kim, I finally got a response from Microsoft about this issue. They told
me it is not available in Office Outlook 2003. It does not work in it at all
as it did in Outlook or Outlook Express, so I assume it hasn't been fixed yet
with any patch. You might contact them if they will respond and find out if
anything since had been corrected. But it takes them forever to respond back.
